An Oregon native, Jan attended Portland State University’s fine art department inspiring her interest in design; leading her to the Interior Design program at U.C.L.A.. Entering the field as a commercial designer at architectural firms in Los Angeles and Washington D.C. Jan gained experience in building strong communication skills. After completing a “residential project” for a commercial client in the Pacific Palisades, Jan realized that the “personal connection” for design process was far more rewarding along with being more “fun” than commercial design work. Her background working with many talented Architectural designers shaped her expanded vision of every space she has had the pleasure to create. The company has remained family operated as you will see below. Jan resides on Rex Hill with her husband, two daughters and son
Administration and office manager. Completing his final tour in Washington D.C. he moved with Jan back to Oregon and together they founded J.K.I.D. Joe’s skill set are a perfect fit for this firm, encompassing office duties, accounting and actually paying the taxes. He does all the day to day operations, along with lifting the heavy stuff to and from presentations. Joe was on loan to Springbrook Properties in the early 2000s as the Assistant Project Manager for the development of The Allison Inn and Spa. He saw the project to completion and felt honored to work with the development team lead by Sonja Haugen. Joe maintains the family home front on Rex Hill.
Photographer and Stylist, Gretchen joined the company in the summer of 2019. Currently completing High School she gained work experience at “The Allison Inn and Spa”, Jory Restaurant. Gretchen’s awareness of today’s fast moving culture has been a strong asset to J.K.I.D. She also serves as a design assistant for many of our larger presentations. Gretchen and her cat Edgy live with our family on Rex Hill. She is an avid rider looking forward to her first Hunter/Jumper competition.
Website Designer, Communications Officer and Social Media Manager, Daniel joined J.K.I.D. in the fall of 2019. Currently in High School, his passion is Art and his writing skills help keep us all in check. He developed and maintains our Website and J.K.I.D Facebook page. We feel lucky to have an artist onboard. Daniel lives with our family on Rex Hill with his Bernese Mountain Dog Mercy Mei and his cat Ignis
